It's no secret that I love sugar so it was about time I created a party celebrating some of my favorite sweet treats - ice cream! This theme is perfect for birthdays or a baby shower for a mama-to-be with a sweet tooth like me. The color palette for the party actually came from a bottle of pastel sprinkles I found while shopping for another project during the spring. I chose everything else based on the light blue, pastel yellow and baby pink colors in the bottle. If you want to recreate at home, you could also use bright colors found in the rainbow sprinkles!
One of my all-time favorite party tricks has to be using fabric backdrops. It's amazing how an inexpensive piece of fabric can really transform the whole look of the party! The one I used here is actually a blue and white shower curtain that I found a HomeGoods. When you're out shopping for the party keep an eye out for patterned flay bed sheets, large table cloths and shower curtains. All of them make amazing backdrops!
To play off the theme, I had my friend Lisa with Maple & Love create some really cute ice cream inspired mini cakes and cupcakes. The "chocolate syrup" drip added such a fun touch and helped bring the theme to life! I had some extra sprinkles left over so I lined the bottom of the cake pedestal as an unexpected detail. For the other food items I put homemade chocolate mousse into small glass cups and topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. I love how these tie in the chocolate on the cupcakes and cakes but also look like mini milkshakes without melting! I knew I needed to incorporate ice cream cones into the table somewhere so I baked up a batch of mini vanilla cupcakes, added frosting and placed them into these adorable pink and blue polka dot cupcake molds then topped with an upside down cone. I love how it creates a similar look to a tipped over ice cream!
I hope my ice cream inspired dessert table inspired you to add some more sweetness to your next party!
